Preveza flood protection works approved for Arethousa River
The Regional Committee has approved a tender for flood protection and partial regulation works on the Arethousa River in the Municipality of Preveza. The project, with a budget of €916,015.75, aims to provide holistic protection for approximately 480 meters of the river upstream from its mouth.
These measures address issues caused by heavy rainfall, unplanned construction along the riverbed, and residential development, which have led to overflows onto adjacent properties. The planned works include cleaning the riverbed of sediment and debris, repairing or reconstructing concrete or gabion linings, and reinforcing riverbanks using wire cylinders, troughs, or gabions to create a stepped cross-section.
Additionally, several other infrastructure projects were approved, including the restoration of a section of the 3B provincial road (Ioannina P.E. - Palaiochori Syrrakou to Prosilio) for €365,800, road improvements for production units in Thesprotia for €150,000, and marking works on the national road network in the Epirus Region for €150,000. Other approved funds include €150,000 for removing materials from streams in Arta and €99,200 to improve road connectivity for residents and livestock breeders near the Kladormi and Fourka monasteries.
