Preveza’s Canal Hosts 18th Traditional Dance Festival, Celebrating Greek Heritage

The Canal of Preveza served as the focal point for the 18th Traditional Dance Festival, held on July 3‑4 in the town’s central square. Hundreds of dancers, musicians and visitors from across Greece gathered to present folk dances and songs under the theme “Bridges of Memory: Dance and Song as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Greece.” The event was organized by the Cultural Association of the Canal in partnership with the Preveza municipality. Mayor Nikos Georgakos opened the festival, emphasizing that the celebration demonstrates the vitality of Greek tradition and its power to unite people. Speeches were also delivered by cultural association president Konstantina Rougka and MP Spyridon Kyriakidis, who praised the festival’s role in preserving intangible heritage. Performances included groups from Epirus, Macedonia, the Aegean islands and Thrace, showcasing a wide range of regional dances and music. The second day featured a tribute to the legacy of folk musician Kostas Mitsas and highlighted the participation of youth from the local cultural association.
