PRF seizes 385 obesity medication ampoules on BR-153

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) seized 385 ampoules of tirzepatide, a medication used for obesity treatment, during an inspection on the BR-153 highway in the Rio Preto region.

The seizure occurred in José Bonifácio on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Officers stopped a Peugeot 207 occupied by a 26-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman. Upon inspecting the vehicle, authorities discovered a hidden compartment inside the seat cushions containing the medication.

The driver, a truck driver, claimed he had traveled to Paraguay to purchase wine and computers for personal use, but admitted he would receive R$ 6,000 to transport the ampoules. The female passenger stated she was unaware of the illegal cargo. The case has been referred to the Federal Police Station in Rio Preto for further investigation.
