PRI accuses Sinaloa prosecutor of masking violence figures amid surge in killings

State PRI leader César Emiliano Gerardo said the Sinaloa Attorney General's Office is distorting homicide statistics to present a more favorable security picture. He cited recent incidents, including the murder of 12 people in a single day—seven inside the Aguaruto prison, four in Culiacán and one in Mazatlán—as well as the killing of a state police officer, a tire‑shop fire, a barber‑shop shooting, and the discovery of two decomposing bodies in Tres Ríos. Gerardo claimed official reports listed only four homicides on 31 May, contradicting media‑verified counts.

The politician warned that the manipulation erodes public trust and fuels economic fallout, noting that businesses and families are leaving Sinaloa for cities such as Guadalajara, Aguascalientes, Mexico City and Monterrey in search of safety and certainty. He also criticized the state’s tourism promotion as contradictory to the prevailing insecurity.
