PRI consolidates power in Coahuila local elections amid opposition claims of vote manipulation

On June 8, 2026, Coahuila held elections for local deputies. The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) retained control of the state, winning all districts, while the Morena‑PT coalition and the PAN‑PVEM alliance failed to secure any seats. PT deputy Reginaldo Sandoval Flores argued the vote was decided by party structure rather than ideology, alleging vote‑buying through QR codes and criticising a heavy security presence before the polls. He quoted, “No es muy sorprendente, porque simplemente ratificaron lo que tenían,” and warned of foreign interference, citing the United States.

Morena coordinator Ricardo Monreal rejected the idea that the resignation of Andrés Manuel López Beltrán caused the loss, stating, “No le atribuimos el resultado a que Andrés López Beltrán haya solicitado su renuncia.” Monreal said Morena will await official counts and then file legal challenges against the results, blaming the PRI’s entrenched organization for the outcome.
