Yucatán Hospital Materno Infantil transfer sparks opposition

The state government of Yucatán approved the donation of the Hospital Materno Infantil to the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) Ordinario. PRI deputy and state party leader Gaspar Quintal Parra condemned the move, describing it as a direct blow to the state’s most vulnerable families. He cited INEGI data showing that nearly 60 % of Yucatán’s workers are informal and lack health‑social security, arguing that the transfer would close specialized maternal‑pediatric care for them.

Quintal emphasized that the decision is not a simple administrative adjustment but the “cancellation of real public health services,” adding the phrase, “Entregar el Hospital Materno Infantil al IMSS Ordinario es cerrarle las puertas en la cara a seis de cada diez familias yucatecas.” He noted that the PRI was the only party to vote against the measure, accusing the federal model of centralism and incapacity to expand its own infrastructure.
