Chihuahua political leaders discuss opposition coalitions for 2027
Political leaders in Chihuahua are actively discussing potential alliances ahead of the 2027 elections. Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, national president of the PRI, announced that the party will seek a broad coalition involving other political forces and civil society to compete for the governorship and other local offices. Moreno claimed that an opposition coalition could win 12 governorships across Mexico in 2027.
Marco Antonio Bonilla Mendoza, the Mayor of Chihuahua, expressed his willingness to lead such a coalition, provided he receives the necessary authorization from the PAN national executive committee. While the PAN has indicated that alliances will be evaluated on a local basis, leader Jorge Romero stated the party aims to retain governorships in Aguascalientes, Querétaro, and Chihuahua.
In Chihuahua, the PRI recently swore in 1,380 members of the 'Defensores de Chihuahua' structure across 67 municipalities as part of its strategy to strengthen the opposition against Morena.
