PRI leader Alejandro Moreno warns of electoral fraud and challenges INE

Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), has raised alarms regarding the integrity of the upcoming federal electoral process. Speaking before the National Electoral Institute (INE), Moreno warned that organized crime must not be allowed to influence election outcomes and accused the INE of inaction and complacency regarding early campaign activities by the Morena party.

Moreno specifically criticized the INE for what he described as a double standard, alleging that opposition figures face scrutiny and political persecution while Morena candidates receive tolerance. He also expressed concern over the potential for electoral fraud due to relaxed oversight and the removal of certain verification mechanisms.

Additionally, the PRI announced plans to challenge a recent INE decision before the Federal Electoral Tribunal. The dispute concerns a new procedure for handling ballots that lack typical fold marks, which usually occur when a ballot is inserted into a voting urn. While the INE stated that such ballots will be documented and reviewed by district councils rather than automatically validated, Moreno argues the decision threatens electoral certainty and could facilitate irregularities.
