PRI's Coahuila win prompts push for opposition mega‑alliance

The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) secured a sweeping victory in Coahuila's local elections, winning all 16 districts and capturing 55.02% of the vote (684,515 votes) while Morena obtained only 26.2% (326,012 votes). The result was highlighted by PRI leaders as evidence of public confidence in their governance model.

In response, PRI figures such as Xitlalic Ceja García, Jorge Rodríguez Méndez and Alex Domínguez called for a "mega‑alliance" with opposition parties—including PAN, Movimiento Ciudadano, the Labor Party and others—to unite against Morena ahead of the 2027 elections, especially in Quintana Roo. Rodríguez Méndez noted that "the parties of the opposition must sit down to dialogue; we can stop Morena". The PRI’s success is being framed as a national signal that the party remains a viable, competitive force.

Morena representatives, including local deputy Alberto Hurtado Vera, acknowledged the PRI win but criticized their national leadership for abandoning candidates in Coahuila to stage marches elsewhere, suggesting internal disarray within the ruling coalition.
