PRI-UDC alliance wins Coahuila governorship as PAN suffers historic defeat

On June 7, the PRI‑UDC alliance secured a decisive victory in Coahuila, winning the governorship and 55.0% of the vote (1.68 million votes). Morena‑PT obtained about 26% (326 000 votes), while Nuevas Ideas captured nearly 6% (73 000). The PAN fell to a historic low, receiving only 2.16% (26 000 votes) and finishing fifth.

Analysts listed the winners – Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas and other PRI‑UDC candidates – and the losers, including Morena and PT leaders and PAN officials such as national director Jorge Romero and state director Elisa Maldonado. The PAN’s collapse is attributed to past internal patronage, a costly alliance with the PRI, and the migration of its traditional voter bases to Morena or the governing coalition.
