Germany: Pride parades and solidarity marches held following Berlin attack
Multiple Christopher Street Day (CSD) events and solidarity demonstrations took place across Germany following a recent Islamist terror attack during a Pride event in Berlin on July 25, which resulted in one death and 31 injuries.
In Nuremberg, a record attendance of more than 20,000 people participated in the CSD parade to advocate for diversity and against social shifts toward the right. In Braunschweig, approximately 6,000 people attended a peaceful CSD parade.
In Cologne, a large solidarity demonstration was held following the Berlin attack. While police initially estimated 2,000 participants, the organization Cologne Pride reported that approximately 10,000 people attended. Organizers of the Cologne event expressed that "anyone challenging the freedom of the queer community, the freedom of this society, is picking a fight with the wrong people" and called on federal, state, and local governments to implement measures to protect queer lives and structures.
