Priego honors traditional trades with new mural and film

Priego is launching new cultural initiatives to honor its historical roots and traditional trades. On October 11, the town will inaugurate the ‘Mural de los oficios’ and present the short film ‘Melodías de la Maderada’.

The mural, created by artist Marta Díaz, measures 20 meters long and four meters high. It depicts three essential historical trades of the municipality: pottery, wickerwork, and ‘gancheros’ (lace-makers). The grayscale artwork features large, colorful flowers made from metal mesh embroidery, a collaborative element involving twelve local women from a textile workshop.

These projects are funded by the Diputación de Cuenca in collaboration with the Ayuntamiento de Priego to promote the local Ethnographic Museum and preserve the cultural identity of the region.
