Priest arrested in San Juan Bautista for alleged abuse of a teenager
Ismael Obregón Olmedo, a 47-year-old priest at the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción church in San Juan Bautista, has been arrested following allegations of abusing a 16-year-old teenager.
The arrest occurred after the Bishop of the Diocese of Misiones and Ñeembucú, Osmar López Benítez, received messages and videos from the victim. According to police reports, the teenager managed to take the priest's phone, lock himself in a bathroom, and send pleas for help via WhatsApp. When authorities and the Bishop arrived at the rectory, they found the teenager in the bathroom and the priest sitting on a sofa.
Prosecutors allege that after celebrating Mass, the priest invited the teenager to the rectory, provided him with alcoholic beverages, and subsequently committed the abuse. The victim was transported to a regional hospital for medical assistance and later released to his mother. The case is currently under investigation by the Public Ministry.
