Priest in Starczówek resigns following funeral dispute

The parish priest of Starczówek in Lower Silesia, Andrzej Paszyński, has resigned following allegations regarding his conduct during a funeral service. According to local residents and the family of the deceased, the priest allegedly attempted to refuse to perform the funeral because the monetary donation provided in an envelope was insufficient.

In addition to the dispute over the donation, parishioners claimed the priest expressed dissatisfaction that the family chose a funeral home other than the one he recommended. While the service eventually took place, witnesses described the mass as being conducted in an arrogant manner, noting that it was significantly shortened and lacked a sermon or personal tribute to the deceased.

Archbishop Józef Kupny has accepted the resignation. Paszyński will remain in his position until August 31, 2026. The Archdiocese of Wrocław has confirmed the decision, though a successor has not yet been appointed.
