Priest Lanfranco Casali's ashes transformed into blue diamond

The ashes of Don Lanfranco Casali, a priest from Osimo, Italy, have been transformed into a blue memorial diamond. Casali, who passed away in November 2025 at the age of 93, had requested this specific arrangement in his will.

The diamond was produced in Switzerland by the company Algordanza AG. The process involves extracting carbon from the cremation ashes and subjecting it to extreme pressure and temperature to replicate the natural formation of diamonds. The resulting blue hue is attributed to the presence of boron in the human body.

Before his death, Casali recorded a video testament explaining the spiritual significance of his choice. He viewed the transformation as a religious symbol, describing himself as a “small diamond” that needed to be purified to better reflect the light of God. The practice of creating memorial diamonds is noted to be in accordance with recent guidance regarding the handling of cremated remains.
