Prijatelji životinja promotes plant-based milk for World Plant Milk Day

To mark World Plant Milk Day on August 22, the association Prijatelji životinja has called on citizens to explore the growing variety of plant-based milk alternatives. The organization highlights that approximately 50 types of plant milk, derived from grains, legumes, and nuts, are currently available on the Croatian market, including specialized barista versions for coffee.

The association emphasizes the ethical and environmental benefits of plant-based products. They argue that the dairy industry involves practices such as artificial insemination and the separation of calves from mothers. From an environmental perspective, they note significant resource differences: producing one liter of cow's milk requires nearly 1,000 liters of water, whereas oat milk requires only about 48 liters. Plant-based options are also cited as having lower greenhouse gas emissions and less impact on water and soil pollution.

Prijatelji životinja has encouraged the domestic dairy industry to expand its production of plant-based yogurts, creams, cheeses, and ice creams. Additionally, the ZeGeVege sustainable living festival will take place from September 4 to 6 at Zagreb's European Square.
