Prijedor Diabetes Association marks 20 years of service

The Diabetes Association of Prijedor is celebrating two decades of providing support, education, and community for individuals managing the condition. Members describe the association as a family that offers essential resources, such as glucose testing assistance and medical advice, alongside social activities like educational excursions.

Svetlana Čeko, president of the association, noted a recent increase in diagnoses among working-age men, particularly those between 45 and 55 years old. The group also supports approximately 30 younger members living with diabetes.

In broader medical contexts, experts emphasize that managing blood glucose levels is a continuous challenge. Nutritionist Vandana Sheth notes that while fluctuations are normal, maintaining balance is critical to avoiding hypoglycemia—which can lead to dizziness or coma—and hyperglycemia, which can cause long-term damage to the heart, kidneys, and nerves.
