Prilep wins Western Balkans circular economy leadership award

The Municipality of Prilep has been awarded the ‘Municipal Circular Leadership Award 2026’, recognizing it as a leader in the circular economy within the Western Balkans. Selected by an international jury from 63 applications, the award highlights the city’s progress in environmental protection and waste management.

Mayor Dejan Prodanoski reported that 49 percent of citizens are already participating in household packaging waste separation. To build on this success, the municipality plans to develop modern infrastructure for secondary waste selection with a capacity of up to 10 tons per hour.

Future initiatives include improving systems for collecting and separating various waste categories, implementing composting solutions, treating construction debris, and reclaiming the existing landfill to reduce the total volume of waste sent for disposal.
