Turkish municipalities expand stray animal welfare infrastructure
Municipalities in Turkey are expanding infrastructure for stray animal welfare and rehabilitation. In Nilüfer, the Umut Ağacı Natural Life and Adoption Center has opened in Karacaoba. Spanning 49,500 square meters, the facility is designed to provide a natural living environment for approximately 3,000 animals, featuring 10 independent sections for treatment, vaccination, and rehabilitation.
In Antalya, the Kirişçiler Stray Animal Temporary Care and Rehabilitation Center has significantly increased its capacity. By 2026, the facility reached a capacity of 5,700 animals, including 5,000 dogs and 700 cats. The center employs a 105-person team, including 22 veterinarians, to manage medical treatments, surgical interventions, and adoption processes.
Other regional efforts include the expansion of animal care services across various municipalities to meet changing legal requirements for the safe housing and medical management of stray populations.
