Primavera do Leste initiates wire removal task force and opens cultural grant applications

The municipal government of Primavera do Leste, Brazil, has created a task force to locate and remove abandoned wires and cables from city utility poles after numerous complaints about safety hazards for motorcyclists, cyclists, pedestrians and drivers. The effort, coordinated by the Secretaries of Public Security and Urban Mobility together with the Environment, Attorney General and Procon offices, will open a channel for citizen reports, involve the power concessionaire Energisa to identify the owners of the cables, and require telecom companies to present a removal schedule.

At the same time, the city’s Culture Secretariat has opened applications for three public calls under the National Aldir Blanc Culture Policy (PNAB), offering grants ranging from R$1,500 to R$25,000 for projects such as poetry, prose, drama, music, theater, dance, visual arts, crafts, indigenous and quilombola expressions, and creative‑economy initiatives. The deadline for submissions is 17 August 2026, and proposals can be submitted online or in person at the municipal culture office.
