Prime Minister Balendra Shah implements ministerial performance agreements
Prime Minister Balendra Shah has initiated a new governance framework by requiring ministers to sign performance agreements at Singha Durbar. These agreements outline specific tasks and targets that ministers are expected to achieve during the current fiscal year.
Key officials participating in the signing include Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal, Home Minister Sudhan Gurung, Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, and Law Minister Sobita Gautam. Additionally, Chief Secretary Govinda Bahadur Karki signed an agreement, extending accountability to the senior bureaucracy.
The initiative aims to move beyond broad political promises by establishing a system where ministerial performance can be assessed against documented, specific targets. This structure is intended to improve discipline, prioritize urgent administrative tasks, and provide citizens with a basis to evaluate whether government commitments are being fulfilled.
