Prime Minister Ishiba defends national interest against U.S. tariffs

During a street speech in Chiba Prefecture, Ishiba stated that the matter is a fight for national interest, declaring, “We will not be looked down upon. Even with allies, we must speak up fairly and squarely.”

The tension arises as tariff negotiations have seen very few successful agreements globally, with only the United Kingdom and Vietnam reaching settlements as of mid-July.
