Prime Minister Janez Janša Boosts Support for Slovene Communities Abroad

The Slovenian government held a council meeting for Slovenians worldwide, the first in two years, chaired by Prime Minister Janez Janša and Minister for Slovenians abroad Suzana Lep Šimenko. Delegates discussed strengthening the Slovene identity through language education, cultural programs and economic cooperation with diaspora entrepreneurs.

The Ministry of Education reported that Slovene language instruction will continue in 20 European countries and more than 100 locations during 2025–2026, serving over 2,300 participants, including more than 1,400 children taught by 40 teachers. Seminars for teachers are also planned in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, the United States and Australia. The government framed the initiative as a strategic national task involving culture, foreign policy and youth engagement.

Overall, the meeting aimed to expand language teaching, preserve cultural ties and increase participation of young Slovenians living abroad in state structures.
