Prime Minister Montenegro visits school implementing mobile phone limits

Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro conducted a surprise visit to the António Alves Amorim School Group in Lourosa, Aveiro. The visit occurred on Thursday, October 22, 2026, while Montenegro was absent from the Council of Ministers meeting due to scheduling reasons.

The school is noted for being the first in the country to independently implement restrictions on mobile phone use. During his visit, Montenegro praised the professionalism of the teachers and the positive impact of the measure on the students.

This visit coincides with broader regional efforts, such as the ‘DisConnect’ campaign in Estarreja, which aims to raise awareness among children, families, and educators regarding the impacts of excessive screen time. The campaign is supported by a collaboration between the Aveiro Intermunicipal Community, the Aveiro Region Local Health Unit, and the Institute of Addictive Behaviors and Dependencies.
