Tanzania officials issue directives on land, infrastructure, and social welfare

Tanzanian Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has issued several directives aimed at improving governance, infrastructure, and social welfare. In Bagamoyo, he ordered the Land Commissioner to lead a special clinic on October 19, 2026, to resolve local land disputes and ensure citizens receive fair compensation for development projects.

Addressing regional connectivity, the Prime Minister opened the 10th Ministerial Council meeting of the Maritime Organisation for Eastern, Southern and Northern Africa (MOESNA) in Dar es Salaam. He urged African nations to strengthen maritime, rail, and road infrastructure to facilitate easier trade and reduce transit times between the continent and global markets.

In the financial sector, Dr. Nchemba emphasized the need for stricter regulation of Savings and Credit Co-operative Societies (SACCOS) to protect member funds. Additionally, the Parliamentary Committee on Welfare and Social Development commended the government for paying debts to social security funds like the Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSSF), which has improved benefits for retirees.

In Mbeya, Vice President Dr. Deogratius John Ndejembi expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress of the Nsalaga-Ifisi road project despite significant funding, directing authorities to reopen closed sections to ease local business and transport disruptions.
