Prime Minister Üstel rejects political use of national security concerns
Prime Minister Üstel has addressed concerns regarding national security, crime, and traffic safety, stating that the government is committed to increasing the capacity of security forces and addressing existing deficiencies. He emphasized that the administration does not ignore problems but actively works to resolve them, noting that statistics do not diminish the impact of individual losses or accidents.
Üstel criticized opposition attempts to portray the TRNC as an ‘island of crime’ or an ‘island of insecurity’ ahead of the election period. He argued that such rhetoric is irresponsible and could damage the nation’s economy, tourism, international image, and public peace.
Regarding calls for an extraordinary meeting of the Assembly of Reps based on security concerns, Üstel stated that the government will not participate in what he described as a ‘political show.’ He maintained that there is no state of war or extraordinary security crisis that justifies such a move.
