Prime Minister Takashi's Kumamoto Earthquake Video Prompted Cabinet Chief Kiihara to Defend Use of BGM
Prime Minister Takashi visited the Kumamoto earthquake disaster area on August 3 and the Prime Minister's Office posted a video of the visit with background music. Chief Cabinet Secretary Kiihara defended the footage, saying it was "one method to convey the situation clearly to the public." He added that the government would not comment on each individual post but emphasized the need for clear communication.
At a press conference on August 5, Kiihara warned that Typhoon No. 13 approaching Kumamoto could trigger landslides even with less rain than usual because the earthquake had loosened the ground. He urged residents to monitor official disaster‑weather information and to move promptly to safe shelters if needed. The government is coordinating the provision of blue‑sheet tarps and other support for those still living in temporary accommodation.
