Prime Minister Tarek Rahman to attend UN General Assembly in US

Prime Minister Tarek Rahman is scheduled to visit the United States to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). If the schedule remains unchanged, he is expected to arrive in New York on September 21 for a visit lasting approximately eight to ten days.

This marks the Prime Minister's first time addressing the UN General Assembly as head of government. In addition to the main session, he is expected to participate in various side events and bilateral meetings with other heads of state and government. The itinerary also includes a program in San Francisco, where he will hold an exchange meeting with the Bangladeshi diaspora.

The visit holds significant diplomatic weight for Bangladesh, as Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman has been elected as the President of the General Assembly. This creates a rare diplomatic scenario where both the head of government and the President of the General Assembly are from the same nation simultaneously.
