Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman to visit Japan for economic talks

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will conduct a four-day official visit to Japan from October 26 to 29 at the invitation of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation, investment, and regional connectivity.

During the trip, the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold high-level bilateral talks with Prime Minister Takaichi on October 27. He will also deliver a keynote address at the Japan-Bangladesh Economic Forum and meet with leaders from JICA, JETRO, JBIC, and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation. Planned site visits include Toyota automobile factories and a JERA LNG terminal in Futtsu, Chiba.

A central focus of the discussions is the updated Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth Belt (BIG-B) initiative, which integrates investment, energy, and maritime security. Bangladesh intends to propose a US$14 billion investment and cooperation package covering 12 priority sectors, including transport, technology, and energy. Meanwhile, reports indicate the Japanese private sector may plan to invest approximately 1 trillion yen in Bangladesh over the next five years.
