Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman to visit Japan for economic talks

Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will embark on a four-day state visit to Japan from October 26 to 29, 2026. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations, expand trade, and deepen development cooperation.

Discussions are expected to focus on economic partnerships, renewable energy, agricultural technology, and human resource development. Bangladesh is reportedly proposing a $14 billion investment and cooperation package to Japan for the 2026–2031 period, prioritizing sectors such as transportation, manufacturing, semiconductors, and climate resilience.

Key agenda items include seeking lower interest rates on existing loans and discussing technical assistance for infrastructure projects, including Dhaka’s metro rail. Officials are considering approximately eight memorandums of understanding (MoUs), with three to four expected to be signed. Additionally, the visit may address expanding opportunities for skilled Bangladeshi workers in the Japanese labor market.
