Prime Video announces Joana Marques documentary

Prime Video has announced the September release of a new documentary titled ‘JOANA MARQUES: Culpada ou indecente?’ (Guilty or Indecent?). Produced by Komodo Studios and directed by Elza Cordeiro, the film revisits the high-profile legal battle between Portuguese comedian Joana Marques and the musical duo Anjos.

The dispute originated from a social media video featuring the duo performing the national anthem at a MotoGP ceremony in Portimão. The case sparked intense public debate in Portugal regarding the boundaries of humor, satire, and freedom of expression in the age of social media. Marques was eventually acquitted by the Lisbon Central Civil Court on October 3, 2025.

The documentary features archival footage, new images, and testimonials from prominent Portuguese media figures, including Manuel Luís Goucha, Ricardo Araújo Pereira, Fernando Alvim, David Fonseca, and Luana Piovani. It explores how the legal experience influenced Marques’s live show, ‘Em Sede Própria’, while examining the broader impact of public opinion and reputation.
