Prime Video reveals first look at ‘Bloodaxe’ series

Prime Video has released first-look images for ‘Bloodaxe’, a new historical drama series from ‘Vikings’ creator Michael Hirst and co-creator Horatio Hirst. The series follows the rise of the Norse raider Erik Bloodaxe, played by Xavier Molyneux, and his wife Gunnhild, portrayed by Jessica Madsen. The plot centers on their struggle to claim the throne of Norway amidst a landscape of betrayal, war, and shifting alliances with other Scandinavian and English rulers.

The first season will consist of eight episodes. Prime Video has already commissioned a second season, which is currently in production in Ireland. While an exact release date has not been finalized, some reports suggest a premiere as early as 2025, while others anticipate a 2027 debut. The production is an MGM Television project under Amazon MGM Studios, with filming scheduled for Ireland and Iceland.
