Prime Volleyball League prepares for fifth season launch
The fifth season of the Prime Volleyball League is scheduled to begin on November 30. The tournament will feature ten franchises competing in a round-robin format, with the top five teams advancing to a Super 5 stage. The defending champions, Bengaluru Torpedoes, seek to retain their title after winning the previous season.
The league, recognized by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) as India’s first-division professional men’s indoor volleyball league, continues to integrate international talent. Each franchise is permitted a maximum of two foreign players. Notable overseas athletes expected to participate include middle blocker Petter Ostvik, setter Paulo Iury Lamounier, and outside hitter Carlos Berrios.
Historically, the league has seen diverse champions, including the Kolkata Thunderbolts, Ahmedabad Defenders, Calicut Heroes, and Bengaluru Torpedoes. Key domestic figures such as middle blocker Ashwal Rai and opposite hitter S. V. Guru Prashanth have established themselves as prominent icons within the competition.
