Primetime Emmy Awards spark diversity debate after no actors of color win major prizes

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards have sparked debate regarding racial representation after no actors of color won in the major acting categories during the televised ceremony. While 17 performers of color received nominations across drama, comedy, and limited series, all 12 lead and supporting acting trophies went to performers outside of underrepresented communities.

Data indicates a downward trend in diversity among nominees. The 17 nominations for actors of color represent a 39% decline from the 28 nominations recorded the previous year. This follows a significant drop from 2021, when 49 actors of color were nominated.
