Primus announces John Hoffman as new drummer

The rock band Primus has officially announced John Hoffman as its new drummer. Hoffman joined the group following a global audition process known as the ‘Interstellar Drum Derby,’ which drew over 6,100 applicants.

Bassist and vocalist Les Claypool explained that the selection process involved a multi-stage filtering system. After reviewing thousands of submissions, the band auditioned 12 finalists. Claypool emphasized that while technical proficiency was important, the band prioritized musical and interpersonal chemistry, describing Hoffman as ‘an incredibly nice, positive human being.’

Hoffman succeeds Tim Alexander and becomes the ninth drummer to join the California-based band.
