Primus to play Budapest; Hungarian drummer Borlai Gergő was close to joining
American rock band Primus announced a European tour that will open in Budapest on August 4, marking the group's first Hungarian show in 15 years. The tour follows a competition held to replace longtime drummer Tim Alexander. Over 5,000 applicants were screened, and the final twelve performances were streamed online. Hungarian drummer Borlai Gergő, known for work with Charlie and Presser Gábor, reached the final stage and was described by frontman Les Claypool as “impressive” and “almost got the job.” Ultimately, the band selected John Hoffman as the new drummer.
Claypool, who leads the eclectic, genre‑blending trio, said Primus has no favorite album and that setlists are often decided at the last minute. He noted that tickets for the European dates sold out quickly and that the Budapest concert will feature a surprise repertoire.
