Prince Abubakar Audu University expels six students for exam misconduct
The Senate of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) in Anyigba, Kogi State, has approved the expulsion of six students following an investigation into examination misconduct. The investigation revealed that the students had rewritten a BOT102 (Introduction to Plant Science) examination at the private residence of a lecturer, Dr. Maji Okpanachi, several days after the original exam date.
University security operatives arrested Dr. Okpanachi and several students at his residence on July 1, 2026, following a tip-off. Evidence, including confessional statements, indicated that the students had paid N10,000 each to the lecturer to facilitate the unauthorized rewrite. Dr. Okpanachi has been referred to the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee.
In addition to the expulsions, the university Senate approved the withdrawal of nine other students due to poor academic performance and failure to register for two consecutive semesters.
