Prince Ali bin Al Hussein Calls for Open Voting in FIFA Presidential Election
Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, president of the Jordan Football Association and former 2016 FIFA presidential candidate, urged the immediate abolition of the secret ballot in FIFA’s presidential elections. In a post on X, he argued that all other FIFA decisions, including World Cup host selection, are already made publicly, and that transparent voting would ensure accountability and protect national associations from behind‑closed‑door pressure.
He highlighted a “clear leadership crisis” within world football and called for an open voting system as the only way for member associations to be answerable to fans, officials and players. The next FIFA presidential election is scheduled for 18 March 2027 at the 77th FIFA Congress in Rabat.
