Prince Andrew and daughters' royal homes used rent‑free, audit shows

A UK National Audit Office report revealed that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have lived rent‑free in royal residences—Beatrice at Ivy Cottage in Kensington Palace and Eugenie in an apartment near St James’s Palace. The costs were covered by the Duchy of Lancaster rather than direct taxpayer money, although maintenance of the properties is financed through the sovereign grant.

The same audit found that Prince Andrew earned income by subletting three cottages on the Royal Lodge estate, paying only a nominal pepper‑corn rent. The report could not determine the total amount he received. These findings were released after Andrew was stripped of his royal titles and is under investigation for alleged misconduct and his past association with Jeffrey Epstein.
