Prince Edward County Advances Development Review and School Funding Referendum

Prince Edward County council approved a study of the controversial Cold Creek housing development, aiming to identify lessons from the approval process that involved complex jurisdictional issues, alleged irregularities and strong community opposition. The motion, supported by councillors after an amendment removing the phrase “serious irregularities,” will produce a report on how to improve transparency for future projects that could affect the Warings Creek watershed.

Separately, the county board of supervisors voted to place a 1% sales‑tax referendum on the November ballot to fund school capital projects, including new construction and major renovations. Superintendent Chip Jones and local residents advocated the measure, emphasizing broader community benefits and the need for upgraded facilities such as high‑school renovations and HVAC upgrades.
