RCMP Boosts Enforcement at Cavendish Beach Music Festival in Prince Edward Island

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced increased patrols and checkpoint operations around the Cavendish Beach Music Festival from July 9‑11. Officers stopped three drivers suspected of cannabis impairment, charged one driver with fleeing police, and issued a total of 52 tickets under the PEI Highway Traffic Act, urging motorists to avoid impaired or distracted driving and to observe speed limits.

An accompanying commentary highlighted the province’s broader challenges, noting a rapidly aging population that strains health‑care resources, rising housing costs that force many residents to choose between medication and food, growing public debt, and uncertainty over energy supplies.

Separately, a historical walking tour of “The Bog” in Charlottetown examined the legacy of a 200‑year‑old Black community founded by formerly enslaved people. Guides pointed out former ponds and homes, linking present‑day government buildings and parks to the area’s early Black history.
