Prince Harry Loses Daily Mail Lawsuit, Faces $50 Million Legal Bill

A UK High Court ruled that Prince Harry and six other claimants, including Elton John and Doreen Lawrence, failed to prove that Associated Newspapers Ltd. (publisher of the Daily Mail) used illegal methods to obtain private information. Judge Matthew Nicklin dismissed the privacy claims, stating that “suspicion, even understandable suspicion, is not proof.”

The court indicated it will seek to recover legal costs that could total more than £50 million (about $66 million). Sources say the Sussexes may need financial help, with Elton John mentioned as a possible supporter.

The verdict arrived during Harry’s recent visit to Britain, where he met King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House. A request for additional security protection was denied, and the loss adds to existing financial pressures on the couple, with reports that Meghan Markle is “very furious” about the looming fees.

Earlier reports had suggested Harry hoped his children’s presence might influence a separate security review, but that strategy also failed to achieve a favorable outcome.
