Prince Harry redirects Diana Memorial Fund to elephant charity

Prince Harry has redirected his portion of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund away from Sentebale, the charity he co-founded in 2006, to the Botswana-based conservation group Elephants Without Borders.

The shift follows a breakdown in the Duke of Sussex’s relationship with Sentebale’s board chairman, Sophie Chandauka, in 2025. This dispute led to the Duke and the board of trustees stepping down amid accusations of an “adverse media campaign” that caused “operational disruption and reputational harm.” The Duke has dismissed these claims as “offensive and damaging,” and legal proceedings regarding defamation remain ongoing.

Elephants Without Borders, led by Dr. Mike Chase, has used the funds to equip two elephants in the Okavango Delta with satellite-tracking collars. In a tribute to the Duke’s family, the elephants were named Archie and Lili after his children. Dr. Chase noted that the donation supports the Duke’s long-standing passion for the wildlife and people of Botswana.
