Prince Harry resigns from African Parks board after abuse scandal

Prince Harry has resigned from the board of directors of African Parks, a wildlife conservation charity, after a decade of involvement. The Duke of Sussex previously served as the organization's president for six years before joining the board in 2023.

His departure follows an independent investigation that confirmed human rights abuses committed by rangers employed by the charity in the Odzala-Kokoua National Park in the Republic of the Congo. The investigation substantiated allegations from the indigenous Baka community involving beatings, torture, and sexual violence. African Parks acknowledged these abuses in 2025 and stated it has since implemented improved safeguarding processes and institutional changes.

Both Prince Harry and African Parks described the resignation as part of a mutually agreed “governance refresh” and a routine restructuring of the board. A spokesperson for the Duke stated that he remains a “supporter of its mission” and that his commitment to African conservation continues. The move coincides with news of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex planning to relocate from California to the United Kingdom.
