Prince Harry to travel alone to London amid security concerns

Prince Harry will make a five‑day visit to London in early July for a series of charitable engagements, including the countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham. He had initially planned to bring his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Archie (7) and Lilibet (5), but a last‑minute decision means he will travel solo because police protection for the family has not been secured.

King Charles offered the Sussexes accommodation at Buckingham Palace, but the Home Office declined the request for state‑funded security for Meghan and the children. Royal experts criticised Harry’s handling of the situation, with one describing him as “behaving like a spoilt celebrity” and another saying he is “lost in his own anxiety”. A palace source called the episode “incredibly frustrating” given the need to arrange suitable guest protection.

The change means the hoped‑for reunion between King Charles and his grandchildren is postponed, the last meeting having taken place in 2022. There remains a possibility that Meghan and the children could join Harry later for events outside London, such as the Birmingham Invictus Games.
