Prince Harry's Planned UK Visit Stalled Over Security Restrictions

Prince Harry and Meghan planned a July trip to the United Kingdom to attend events surrounding the Invictus Games in Birmingham and to meet the children with their grandfather, King Charles III. Days before the scheduled arrival, the British government refused to grant the family police protection outside royal residences, leaving the prince without the armed escort he usually receives.

Harry previously lost a court battle with the Home Office over automatic police protection and is now awaiting a final decision from the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), which includes representatives from the palace, Home Office, Cabinet Office and the Metropolitan Police. The prince may travel with his own private security team, but private guards are not permitted to carry firearms in the UK. The uncertainty has raised the prospect that the visit could be altered or postponed despite the family's desire to see the children and support the games.
