Prince Harry's UK trip in doubt after denial of taxpayer‑funded security

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have planned a family visit to the United Kingdom in July, timed to mark the one‑year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games. The itinerary includes a short stay of about five days, during which the family would stay at a royal residence and attend charitable engagements.

A formal request for police protection was submitted to the Home Office. The Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) subsequently informed the Sussexes that no taxpayer‑funded police security would be provided outside royal properties. As a result, Harry is considering travelling without his wife and children, or finding alternative arrangements, because he says the children would be unsafe without adequate protection. Sources say he remains “distraught” and is looking at every option to ensure a safe visit. The security decision has raised concerns about the feasibility of the trip and its impact on the planned family reunion with King Charles III.

While the King has offered accommodation in a royal residence, the lack of guaranteed police protection has led to speculation that the visit may be postponed or altered, with the Sussexes currently on a European holiday pending a final decision.
