Prince of Wales Hospital patient charged in alleged petrol attack

A 48-year-old patient, Raymond James Dungay, has been charged following an alleged petrol attack in the spinal ward of Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick, Sydney. The incident occurred at approximately 10:45 pm on a Tuesday.

Police allege that Dungay used a drink bottle to douse three fellow patients with an accelerant before igniting it with a lighter. One victim, 54-year-old Randovan Banic, suffered minor burns across his body but remains in stable condition. Two other patients, a 63-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman, were also doused but sustained only minor injuries and are reported to be in stable condition.

Dungay was arrested at the scene and faces charges including two counts of attempted murder, common assault, and two counts of intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Health Minister Ryan Park has condemned the attack and initiated an urgent review into the circumstances of the incident.
