Prince Rupert prepares for school trustee and city council elections

Elections are approaching in Prince Rupert and Port Edward, with candidates preparing for upcoming votes in both school trustee and city council races.

For the School District 52 trustee election, eight candidates have been nominated for the six seats representing Trustee Election Area 1. The nominees include three incumbents—Kristy Maier, Danielle Dalton, and James Horne—alongside five newcomers: Katherine Beach, Jeremie Diesel, Martin Pariseau, Mary Denton, and Karen Buchanan.

In the municipal race, incumbent Teri Forster is seeking another term on the Prince Rupert city council. Forster has identified aging infrastructure, water treatment, housing, and affordability as primary community challenges. She also emphasized her work regarding Indigenous Relations and Accessibility committees and sustainability initiatives.
