Prince Saud bin Nayef chairs Eastern Province traffic safety meeting
Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, chaired a periodic meeting of the Regional Traffic Safety Committee. The meeting, attended by Deputy Governor Prince Saud bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, focused on enhancing road safety through integrated efforts between government agencies and the private sector.
Statistics presented for the first nine months of 2026 indicate a 13% decrease in serious accidents. Analysis shows that over 71% of these incidents were caused by driver distraction, sudden lane changes, improper pedestrian crossings, failure to maintain safe distances, and traffic violations.
To address these issues, authorities have impounded over 3,000 vehicles and 2,500 motorcycles, addressed 26 critical locations, and improved safety at 53 intersections. These measures contributed to a 24% reduction in motorcycle-related accidents. The committee also discussed safety solutions for the Al-Uyun–Al-Uqair road in Al-Ahsa province.
